I thought I would take this assignment as an opportunity to express my love for wine. There is always an occasion fit for wine whether it’s Sunday night homework, Wednesday night pizza, or a formal event. Not to mention all the wine varieties that allow the consumer to travel the world in a bottle. As a die-hard wine fan, I thought it was a little odd that I have never visited a wine website. I decided to frame this assignment around the three relatively popular and college budget friendly brands of wine including Barefoot, Yellow Tail, and Beringer. Although I love wine, I’ve never considered visiting the suppliers website.

Each website was relatively easy to navigate. All three provided the option to learn more about the product, contact the manufacturers, and locate “a store near you’ that sells a specific bottle. Each site provided a link that directed consumers to a webpage that told their specific story. From here all of the websites offered an option to share their newly learned information with social media.

The colors were captivating and the graphics/photographs were helpful as I was trying to navigate my favorite flavor of each brand. Although the graphics were nice I still relied heavily on the text. Yellow Tail’s website had text at the top of the page that was relatively small and difficult for me to read. This website may not be user friendly for consumers who may be vision impaired. Although the other two websites had larger text, none of the websites had text-to-speech software. I was also unable to find any sort of tools for the hearing or mobility-impaired consumer. Also, none of the websites offered the option to change the language. I find that when I’m online shopping at a company that isn’t from an English speaking country, there is always an option to change the language.

Both Barefoot and Beringer provided a search engine within the website, however Yellow Tail did not. I took significantly longer trying to find my favorite flavor of Yellow Tail then I did with the other two brands. Overall however, each website was pretty simple and pretty similar to each other. The text for navigation and bottle description was short and to the point in each of the websites.
